Admitting Mistakes
The Last Time
When was the last time you admitted to a mistake?
Reflect on the week, the month, or the school year. When have you told your students about a teaching mistake? In what situation did you misspeak-- incorrect facts, statistics, or anything else in your teaching-- and you had to correct yourself the next day or when you finally realized you were wrong?
The Next Time
Take advantage of the next time you can draw attention to a mistake.
Teachers are life learners. To exhibit humility in your interactions with students proves this point, and admitting to mistakes can strengthen your connection with a class. If a teacher is willing to take risks in admitting any wrongs in life, students can feel comfortable to do the same. No one is perfect. Teachers are no exception.
