Always Waiting
by Emmitt Dei Richards
Time is an odd thing conceptually for me. Conventional wisdom would tell you that we should live in the present but we must constantly evaluate our past to process our present to secure our future. Time in general has a different context for everyone, from physicist to philosophers and spiritual advisers.
There is one constant truth no matter what your belief is on the subject. Time is finite for a living being and we all strive to do something important with it that makes us feel valuable.
Erwin Schrodinger said, "We must not wait for things to come, believing that they are decided by irrescindable destiny. If we want it, we must do something about it." [Link]
Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche is a prominent teacher in Tibet. He stated, "Until concepts are exhausted, there is time and you make preparations; however, you should not grasp onto time as truly existent, and you should know that within the essential nature of mahamudra, time does not exist..." I, for one, view time as a pre-existing entity that was here before me and will be here after me, but for the time being I am coexisting with time. What I do with that time is all situational, based on perspective and context of my life in each moment.
People fit into a couple of categories when they perceive what they are doing with their life. Sometimes we want to affect our future so we fill our brain with worries to make our goals a reality. Time makes things, people, emotions and life inevitably really important on all scales to every human on earth.
Time is struggle.
Time is victory.
Waiting is struggle.
Waiting is victory.
I don't have time to wait.
